Professor Venkatesan's research is focused on experiments concerned with epitaxial metal oxide thin films, and his group is currently engaged in the fundamental study and application of thin film high-temperature superconductors, diluted magnetic oxides (DMO) semiconductors and multiferroics. The research of his group is devoted to the fabrication and study of the film growth processes, the fabrication of novel multi-layer structures to elucidate the properties of the superconductor, DMS and other novel oxide materials. The group stands at the forefront of research in the area of deposition of HTS and DMS films by a pulsed laser deposition technique. The films produced by this technique are utilized in the fabrication of junctions, Field Effect Transistors (FETs) and other devices which not only demonstrate the device potential of these films and multi-layers but also enable one to extract fundamental information regarding the characteristics of these materials.
